What possessed me to do this?

Sue Roberson opened her first outlet in Cardiff back in 2000 having first come across O’Briens at a franchise exhibition a few years earlier.

"I had always wanted to start my own business with the support of my husband, Dale," said Sue. "Although I had a lot of management experience in the catering sector, I didn’t want to take the plunge on my own, so decided that franchising was the route for me.  But which franchise?

”After all my research, I kept coming back to O’Briens. The team showed much more interest in me and were realistic about my chances, rather than making a quick franchise sale. Thanks to the lack of pressure from their side, my trust grew and I happily made a commitment. I wasn’t wrong!"

Along with Dale, Sue is fulfilling her goal to develop the brand in Wales, as the couple enjoy tremendous success building up the retail business in tandem with catering opportunities. Keeping it in the family, Dale’s brother Clif moved from a career in engineering to open his first O’Briens shop in Swansea at the end of 2006.

“I watched Dale and Sue closely as they explored the franchise market and selected O’Briens because it ticked all the right boxes for them,” said Clif.  “I was really impressed with the professionalism and quality of the O’Briens brand at every level from training to the product offer.

“The popularity of the brand in Wales was evident to me thanks to the great success enjoyed in Cardiff.  It was the most natural progression for me when I wanted to go into business for myself.  I knew that O’Briens was one of the best operators in the industry with its flexible offer allowing demand to be sustained throughout the day and throughout the year.”
