45
feet sandwich will raise thousands for Christina
Noble Children’s Foundation
O’Briens Sandwich Bar in Scotland has built a 45ft sandwich
to beat the World’s Tallest Sandwich record set by its
Irish colleagues at 40ft two years ago in Cork. In achieving
the record, O’Briens raised thousands of pounds for the
sandwich and coffee franchise chain’s nominated charity,
the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation (CNCF).
This international charity is dedicated to serving children
in Vietnam and Mongolia in need of emergency and long-term
care and protection. Founder, Christina Noble, herself once
an orphan and homeless in Ireland, has achieved remarkable
results in the lives of the many children who now affectionately
call her Mama Tina.
“O’Briens has already donated tens of thousands
to CNCF, raised by our outlets around the world to help build
much needed schools and to buy gers – traditional tented
homes that are incredibly warm and particularly sturdy against
their harsh winters,” said John Irvin, who operates the
Scottish master franchise and support team along with business
partner, Stephan Ashley. “Many handicapped children,
normally consigned to lying or crawling on the floor, have
also benefited hugely from donations thanks to specialist equipment
bought to aid their mobility.
“This was our chance to really do our bit for CNCF and
help raise the charity’s profile here in Scotland. We
are delighted that Christina was able to join us for the fundraising
event. She is truly a remarkable lady who works tirelessly
for the charity.
“We
would also like to thank all our supporters for making this
possible,
especially Ocean Terminal for helping
us host the event and the dozens of volunteers who built the
sandwich and collected donations on the day.”
The fundraising
event took place in front of thousands of shoppers and tourists
in Edinburgh’s Ocean Terminal over
the weekend. Emulating O’Briens distinct built to order
sandwiches, the tower followed its TripledeckerTM recipe and
was carefully constructed layer by layer by hand.
Supporters included the Royal Bank of Scotland Franchise Division,
Five Star Fabrications, Food Options, TUSC, Ocean Terminal,
Elaine Stewart Public Relations and Caspa Marketing.
