45
feet of sandwiches set to raise thousands for Christina
Noble Children’s Foundation as Scotland picks up
challenge to crush 40ft record
O’Briens Sandwich Bar in Ireland has thrown down the
gauntlet to its Scottish colleagues to beat the World’s
Tallest Sandwich record this Saturday (29 Oct ’05), which
it set at 40ft two years ago in Cork, raising thousands of
Euros for the Special Olympics World Summer Games.
Now O’Briens franchisees throughout Scotland are mobilising
in an endeavour to mirror the Irish efforts by raising thousands
for the brand’s new nominated charity, the Christina
Noble Children’s Foundation (CNCF). This international
charity is dedicated to serving children in Vietnam and Mongolia
in need of emergency and long-term care and protection. Founder,
Christina Noble, herself once an orphan and homeless in Ireland,
has achieved remarkable results in the lives of many children
who now affectionately call her Mama Tina.
“O’Briens has already donated tens of thousands
to CNCF, raised by outlets around the world to help build much
needed schools and nurseries and to buy gers – traditional
tented homes that are incredibly warm and particularly sturdy
against their harsh winters,” said John Irvin, who operates
the Scottish master franchise and support team along with business
partner, Stephan Ashley. “Many handicapped children,
normally consigned to lying or crawling on the floor, have
also benefited hugely from donations thanks to specialist equipment
bought to aid their mobility.
“This is our chance to really do our bit for CNCF and
help raise the charity’s profile here in Scotland. We
are delighted that Christina is able to join us for the fundraising
event. She is truly a remarkable lady who works tirelessly
for the charity.
“We
would also like to thank all our supporters for making this
possible,
especially Ocean Terminal for helping
us host the event and the dozens of volunteers who are building
the sandwich and collecting donations on the day.”
The fundraising
event will take place in front of thousands of shoppers and
tourists in Edinburgh’s Ocean Terminal
on Saturday 29 October 2005, with construction kicking off
at 11am and ‘topping out’ at 45 feet expected around
1.30pm. Emulating O’Briens distinct built to order sandwiches,
the tower will follow the Tripledecker™ recipe and be carefully
constructed layer by layer by hand.
Supporters include the Royal Bank of Scotland Franchise Division,
Five Star Fabrications, Food Options, TUSC, Ocean Terminal,
Elaine Stewart Public Relations and Caspa Marketing.
