23 Aug 05  - O'Briens Goes Juicy as it Launches New Look Outlet in Craigavon

Largest retail store in portfolio will extend offer even wider thanks to dedicated outside catering unit

O’Briens Sandwich Bar launches its first store in Craigavon today, as former financial controller, Michael McLoughlin, opens his new franchise outlet in the recently expanded Rushmere Shopping Centre. Michael is employing 17 local full and part time staff, including a manager, to make up his team at this, the 13th sandwich and coffee bar franchise for O’Briens in Northern Ireland and the second of several new stores he has in the planning for the Province this year.

Michael, an accountant to trade, is well known in the business community locally, as he has been based in Portadown for the past 15 years working in the food and manufacturing industries. Before embarking on his new business venture with his first O’Briens outlet opening in Derry earlier this summer, he was ten years with Kerry Foods as Financial Controller for Northern Ireland. He brings a wealth of experience to O’Briens.

Commenting on his new outlet in the Rushmere Shopping Centre, 36-year-old Michael said: “This is a superb location for our first store in the area. It boasts the ideal combination of easy access to the M1 motorway, 2,000 free car parking spaces and a large catchment area on its doorstep that is enjoying its status as one of the biggest growth regions outside of Belfast.

“The outlet itself could not be better placed as it sits right at the front entrance of the busy Rushmere Shopping Centre. Like O’Briens, the centre has also benefited from major changes recently. We have high hopes this location will really boost the strength of the O’Briens brand which, in the last six months, has seen significant investment into a new concept store design and menu that offers greater variety than before.”

With seating for 70, this is the largest retail outlet in the O’Briens portfolio in Northern Ireland. As well as the retail store that provides sit in and takeaway services, outside catering will be a key feature. A separate preparation unit will provide a wide variety of platter options geared towards corporate business and private family occasions for five people upwards. Free delivery in refrigerated vans will take the outside catering to the heart of the community.

As part of the O’Briens new concept offering, Michael is introducing a juice bar with real fruit juices and smoothies, which fits well with O’Briens healthy Guilt Free Food and Low Fat Five options. His is the first Northern Ireland outlet to include a hot carvery offering succulent organic roast meats, which are proving as popular as the O’Briens made to order sandwiches, gourmet coffees and soups.

The new O’Briens concept is the result of much innovative work on food concept development, while building on the many positive perceptions of the brand, such as a made to order offer with fresh food prepared in front of the customer and healthier choices. O’Briens has also adopted a more ethical way of doing business by going organic with milk, hot meats, deli dishes and snacks. Its coffee blend now includes Fair Trade beans.

The O’Briens outlet opening hours mirror that of the Rushmere Shopping Centre – 9am to 9pm Mondays to Fridays, 9am to 6pm Saturdays and 1pm to 6pm on Sundays.
